I can't login to library resources or the connection is slow - help!
To use our subscription resource (they usually have a padlock symbol next to them in the database list) you have to log in to the library proxy. You use your username (your email without the @bastyr.edu on the end) and the same password that you use for your email. If that login page isn't loading, or isn't connecting after you enter your password, there could be a number of reasons that the library isn't connecting for you.
Try the following troubleshooting tips:
- If the page isn't loading; make sure you're using Chrome in regular mode (not incognito mode). Safari and Firefox sometimes time out and you will just see a blank page.
- Confirm you aren't running any other proxy/VPN on your machine that could be overriding the library authentication.
- If you click on a library resource and the login page is taking a long time to load - please just bear with and it will eventually load. Avoid closing and reopening as this restarts the process. Let library@bastyr.edu and helpdesk@bastyr.edu know if you are experiencing a "timing out" on your connection.
- If the login page loads, but your credentials aren't accepted, your password may have expired. You can reset your account by emailing helpdesk@bastyr.edu OR you can reset it yourself here if you remember your last valid password: https://tolfuin.bastyr.edu
- Additionally, try clearing your computer cache/history, then restarting your computer
- Remember that you can also download apps for many resources including DynaMed; you can create an account within these that will allow you to connect remotely without going through the proxy. This may be helpful for clinicians and residents if you run into proxy authentication problems.
If you are getting an error message, or the service is still timing out, please contact library@bastyr.edu and let us know so that we can further assist you!
